Kayak: Marahau - Onetahuti
After completing your safety briefing, paddle from Marahau to the Astrolabe area in the southern end of the national park. The Astrolabe has the highest concentration of sandy beaches to explore and on the right tide you might even have the opportunity to catch a few cave drifts before setting up camp. The Astrolabe comes alive late evening and early morning with the sound of Birdsong thanks to the efforts of the Abel Tasman Birdsong Trust and the camp sites are if not on the beach right on the beach and have amazing views. Night one will be spent in this area
Day two continue on into the heart of the National park. Spend the day exploring the surrounds of Anchorage, Bark Bay and Onetahuti before returning via water taxi to Marahau. This trip covers 25km of coastline over 2 days.
Camp passes are included in our packaged price. We book these passes on your behalf. Please note if you are a New Zealand resident choose the New Zealand Resident price, if you are an International Visitor choose International Visitor price.
Recommended campsite: Observation Beach.
- Start a bit later.
- Spend a night in the Astrolabe listening to the dusk and dawn bird chorus.
- If the tide is right allow time to explore the lagoons and inlets between Bark Bay and Anchorage.
- Explore the Tonga Island Marine Reserve and its surrounds.
